Message from the Board – Joe Watts, President

As you know, we are in Phase 2 of the Governor's reopening plan, which began 5/22/2020. This phase was designed to last about 45 days. At this time, we do not know if Phase 3 will be modified, delayed or implemented. As soon as we have new guidelines, the Board will review our options and announce any new plans or changes for our neighborhood.

Meanwhile, the pool is open, the Office and the ACC is working through email and phone messages; however, the clubhouse remains closed.

The Town of Carolina Shores announced that Jon Mendenhall has submitted his resignation effective 8/17/2020. He has accepted the position of Town Administrator for Eden, NC. Congratulations to Mr. Mendenhall, we wish him well.

THANK YOU TO OUR BULLETIN EDITORS LINDA RUGG and MERRILEE BURNS

IF YOU ARE NOT ON OUR FREE COMMUNITY EMAIL DISTRIBUTION LIST, PLEASE CONTACT THE BUSINESS OFFICE. YOU MAY HAVE MORE THAN ONE EMAIL ADDRESS PER HOUSEHOLD.

Please remember to notify the office if you change your phone number, email address, name, or mailing address. It is very easy to overlook this, but difficult for the office should we need to contact you. Thank you.

Recreation Facilities – Kelly Wilson

Pool

We would like to remind members attending the pool of the Phase 2 rules. Please read and follow all rules. Also, during Phase 2, all admittance to the pool is restricted to POA MEMBERS/RESIDENTS only. Non-resident family members, out of town family and guests will not be allowed admittance to the pool area at this time. This is for the safety of all our members.

Please also have available upon request valid resident ID to show, if asked by the attendant, as we have had several issues with non-members attending the pool. We are hopeful within the next 3 to 4 weeks that we will be moving into Phase 3.

On June 29 the pool will be closed at 6:00 p.m. for a scheduled super shock and reopen for lap swimming on Wednesday July1 at 8:00 a.m. for morning lap swimming.

Recreation Area

We ask all members walking their animals in and around the Recreation Area to please pick up after their animals. It has been observed recently by others that this is not being done and we want to remind everyone that this is a recreation area for member enjoyment and not an animal park. Also, please keep all animals on leashes at all times, as this too has been observed.

We thank everyone for your cooperation and understanding during these trying times.

PHASE 2 – CSPOA POOL RULES

The North Carolina Department of Health (DoH) Guidelines restrict the number of members allowed into the pool deck area. We will be admitting 60 member/residents only, and members in the pool to 35 swimmers. We will be allowing 60 members in at a time to max out safely.

Entrance to the pool will be on a “FIRST COME” basis, and swimmers/sunbathers will not be permitted in once occupancy max has been reached. Once this happens it will be posted outside the gate that the pool is full, so please DO NOT ENTER. When people leave and the max lessens and the area cleaned, the sign will change.

With the low numbers allowed to attend, admittance will be kept to MEMBER/RESIDENT ONLY. NO GUESTS (including out of town family) will be allowed at this time under Phase 2. You may be asked to show residence by id if needed.

When entering the pool area, after signing in, you must choose between a table or a lounge chair. USING BOTH IS PROHIBITED with seating capacity. Due to restrictions we are only able to keep a certain amount of furniture available as each piece must be wiped down before reuse.

Tables with 4 chairs are available for families in need of more than 2 chairs. Tables with 2 chairs are to accommodate singles and pairs. Lounge chairs will be available for sun bathers. We ask that if you’re there to sunbath, please do not use a table.

NO reserving seats will be permitted. Only complete parties will be admitted to the pool, as admission is on a first come basis.

All furniture must remain in place. MOVING of furniture is prohibited as it is placed and marked within the social distancing requirements.

During Phase 2, guidelines require families move as ONE UNIT. They MUST remain together at all times in or out of the pool. Children are to stay within the family unit.

No balls or toys are permitted during Phase 2. Only noodles are permitted and MUST remain with you at all times.

Kiddie pool is to be used by parents with non-swimming toddlers, and the child MUST be in an approved swim diaper.  NO REGULAR DIAPERS ARE ALLOWED. Children are not allowed without a parent in the kiddie pool area.

Stairs and ladders are marked per requirement. Please, keep both areas open so swimmers may enter and exit safely. One set of stairs is for entering, and one set for exiting.  Both ladders are used as an EXIT ONLY.

Using bathrooms will be at your own risk. They will be disinfected daily per requirements. Due to the second gate being used, please keep your key card/fob with you as it will be required for reentry into the pool area.

Rules are to be followed by all members. Failure to do so will result in suspension of privileges to the pool.

Please note that these rules are continuously in draft mode as regulations may change per DoH guidelines. Rules not followed may result in the loss of our pool permit by the DoH.

ACC Corner – Joe Martere, ACC Chairperson

I would like to address two issues, the first being the Guidelines for Political signs. Please submit your request for a political sign at least five (5) business days prior to the allowable date of display of September 12, 2020. As the guidelines state, it must be removed no later than November 10, 2020. Please read the information below. Flags and/or banners with a political reference are allowed. They must not exceed 15 square feet in size. For a flag that is 3 ft. by 5 ft. and the same dimensions apply to banners.

“In accordance with the provisions of Section 3, Sub-section 121 (2) a. of the North Carolina Planned Community Act Chapter 47F, and in concurrence with Section 6, Sub-section 18 of the Declaration of Restrictions of the Carolina Shores Property Owners' Association, Inc. (CSPOA), the CSPOA will allow political signs to be displayed no earlier than forty-five (45) days before the day of an election and no later than seven (7) days after an election day. Signs shall be no larger than 24 inches by 24 inches, and on a freestanding support. No signs are allowed on any unimproved lot. A political sign is one that attempts to influence the outcome of an election, including supporting or opposing an issue on the election ballot.”

The second issue is the changes to the construction of A/C heat pump/propane tank screens. We are no longer allowing the White lattice screens/sections as allowable covers. Please read the information enclosed below.

“ACC Guidelines for A/C, Generators & Propane Tank Panels that screen all units are to be constructed of:

1.       Vinyl or wood lattice

or

2.       Wood of alternate slat construction.

The material can be white, natural or painted a color to match the home.

The screen must be attached to posts at the ends and anchored firmly into the ground.

The screen must cover the entire width of the unit and be at least 6”, but no more than 12’’ over the height of the unit.

Shrubbery will be allowed if planted and meets the above stated height and width requirements.”

As always, if you are unsure or have any questions, please reach out to me at the office number and leave a message. Please do not call my home. You can also e-mail me directly at: acc@carolinashores.net. Remember we are on a fluid schedule so give me time to respond. Stay safe.

Tennis News – Bob Anthony

Open tennis continues through the Coronavirus. If you would like to join our avid tennis players just come on out on Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 8:30 a.m. and you will be paired-up with another player. In the meantime, be safe, listen to the experts, pay attention to the numbers, keep social distances, and remember to wear masks, as we all try to combat this virus.

Knit ‘n Natter – Diana Mardall

Did you know Carolina Shores has an evening knitting/crocheting/needlework group? We meet every other Monday at 6:30 p.m. If you knit, crochet or do other needlework, stop by and join us. We’d love to see new faces.

The group meets and shares patterns and expertise. We work on a variety of projects including sweaters, cardigans, afghans, shawls, cross stitch, arm knitting (that was a blast!), etc. Usually we even have dessert!

Our knitting group is meeting at the pavilion until the POA clubhouse is open. The meetings for July will be on the 6th and 20th at 6:30 p.m.

If you have any questions, email me at limeylady70@gmail.com or call me at 910-575-7804.

Book Discussion Group – Susie Riggs

The Carolina Shores Book Discussion Group met outside under the pavilion on Friday, June 19. We continued to practice social distancing as we discussed this month’s reading selection, The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. Based on true events that took place in a Florida reform school, the novel brought out feelings of shock and sorrow among our readers. While it was a difficult book to read, we all agreed that it is a story that very much needed to be told.

Our next meeting will be held at the pavilion by the swimming pool on Friday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m. Our selection for the month is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.  All interested residents of Carolina Shores are invited to attend.

Care Team – Beverly Rowse

http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/customer-care-team-d-isolated-43443409.jpgThe Care Team now has twenty-three (23) people available to help neighbors in need when a request comes to me. If you want to be a part of this team or if you no longer want to be on the list, please let me know. When a call for help comes to me, I reach out to the members on NextDoor. I don't get very many calls for help, but people are so very grateful for the assistance they get! It really doesn't take much to volunteer. Help with a small chore at home, an occasional ride, a temporary need for dog walking, etc. is usually what is needed.

So, neighbors, continue to let me know if you need help and I'll do my best to find someone. You don't have to be on NextDoor to request help. You can call me at 919-271-3005
